Play Ball Layout

Hi All! Have you all had a great summer too? Sorry I have been so neglectful! We have been running a mile a minute around here. All kinds of stuff and activities going on. I am sure it's the same with you though, right?

One of our favorite summer activities is going to the local minor league baseball team's games. The franchise is called The Salt Lake Bee's. Although we went this summer, the pictures used in the layout are actually from last year. I had already printed these pictures some time ago, but didn't know what I was going to do with them. When I pulled them out and they were black and white, inspiration struck. I used the team's colors, black and yellow.

Here is what I came up with:

All of the die cuts are created from my Cricut. See below for the cartridges used.  I used my Cricut to cut out the circles on the black cardstock. Then I took punched circles, slightly larger, and glued them from behind. 

This is my favorite part of the layout. I loved layering all the small little pieces together and then the circle cutout behind.  The different little words and phrases are from a piece of patterned paper made by My Mind's Eye. 

I don't have a Silhouette, but that didn't stop me from using my Cricut to come up with the title for the page! I used the darling font from my Cindy Loo cartridge, all in lower case and then used the negative space. Even though the font is pretty girly, I was able to make it work with the theme of the page by using the negative space. I also eliminated the holes in the letters p, a and b. For the tiny little banners, I cut them actually out from some super cute paper from My Mind's Eye. It's from the line designed by Rhonna Farrer. It was too cute not to use. 

I used the cream and black numbers from a piece of pattern paper from lily bee. I cut them out and placed them in order to represent the number of strikes or outs allotted, as well as the number of innings in the game. The other thing that I liked about this page was using my scallop border punch in a different way. I only punched a portion of each side on the top left and bottom right corners. Then I mounted a full piece of white cardstock behind, so that it showed on each corner. I added some details to tell about the time and place of the pics. 

I love this picture of the three of us in our little family having a great time at one of the things we love to do every summer.

Look, I Scrapbooked!!!

Do you guys love the Miss Caroline from My Mind's Eye, as much as I do??? For me, it was love at first sight. I ended up getting a little bit of everything from all of the Miss Caroline lines. Once I got the paper, I COULD NOT WAIT TO COME HOME AND SCRAPBOOK! I have not made a page for about 6 months. And I didn't even blog the last page I made because I messed up on the journaling section.

Well, on both of the scrapbook pages I made - that's right, I made 2!!! - I made a spot to hide the journaling. So hopefully when I write down the journaling for each page, even if I don't love the way it turns out, I won't care as much because I can hide them :).

Between the photo and the doilies is where the hidden journaling panel is. Once I get it complete, I will show a post on it.

I am crazy about the wood die cuts from My Mind's Eye! I used a butterfly on this page, and a label on the next page. I wish I could die cut wood this thick, myself with my Big Shot or Cricut!

Besides the Miss Caroline paper, I also used some older My Mind's Eye lines for the banner. I thought they all went really well together.

A few things to note, I didn't use any cardstock! It's all patterned paper. Also, the photo editing is from a site called PicMonkey. It's a good replacement for Picnic being gone. There are some really cool effects, and right now, all of them are free. Some day I will learn how to use my Adobe Photoshop program. Until that day comes though, this sight is great!

This next page is my favorite:

I used a combination for the Mister Huey's spritzers from Studio Calico and re-inker refills from Stampin' Up! The re-inkers created the large drops all over the page. It's a technique I will be using a lot more, for sure! My other favorite thing about the page is the banner stamps at the top of the page. These are from My Mind's Eye. Aren't they adorable! And they layer so well!

Thank You Cards Bundle

Hi Everyone! I made these thank you cards a while back. They were a requested order. I think they turned out pretty cute. I love small cards, as I have said many times before. These cards are all made by Stampin' Up! And they have coordinating envelopes for each that fit perfectly. They are all retired cards, so you can't order these particular ones anymore. But they still do have some currently in their catalog.

Decorating My Desk For Work

Hi Everyone! Are you all as excited for Halloween as I am! {as a side note I am almost finished Christmas shopping for Peyton! Woot Woot!!!} So I thought I would finally show you all my desk at work! We are having a Halloween Desk Decorating Contest, and I finally have everything up that I wanted to get! Well, almost. My ideas are always grand!

I took my BOO letters and girly skull to work, but I made some other things, just for work. I made a few goblets, a spooky tree, and a haunted house {my favorite!}.

I fell in love with the new line from Tim Holtz with all these fun Halloween cutouts. This one uses the black skeleton body.  I used the boney hand on the scrapbook page frame that I posted last.

 

Here is the fun bow on the goblet. Get ready to see more of these bows!



This tree is from Michaels. I added the garland, like the same as my tree at home, but this time I added the little bats to it. I am having a hard time finding a small enough light set for it. Maybe next year.

I love these fun spiders and the web all over everything! As you can tell, I got pretty crazy over the spiderweb and used it over everything!!!!!! It is too much fun!

Goblet #2. This one has a lollie, scallop circle and another fun label from Authentique. The spider is from last year used on my SPOOKY banner.

My favorite is this little Halloween House! I have been wanting to make one for the longest time, finally, I just made myself do it last night. It was staring at me, and said "Make me into a Halloween house!" So I said "Okay!" You can't tell in the picture, but there is black spider web all over the house.

Hi Skully! Ooh, like from X-Files! I just admitted some of my geekiness that I have been hiding! I was a total X-Files nerd! I love a good conspiracy theory, what can I say.

When Witches Go Riding

Hi crafty friends! Hope you are all having a spooky Halloween season! My house has been really quiet this week. My parents took Peyton down to their house in Saint George last Sunday. I have been able to clean my craft room, get some crafting done, and watch some TV that I was behind on! Thong has watched sports non stop - it's his favorite time of year for sure! But boy do we miss our little girl! She is still gone too this whole next week, as well! But Friday, my parents took Peyton and my nephew, O.J., down to Disneyland! I am so jealous!! But I am so excited for her to go and have fun! They went yesterday, and then are going back tomorrow and Tuesday!

Yesterday, I got a call in the afternoon. Peyton was so excited to tell me that she saw Cinderella! When we went earlier this year, we didn't get to see her the whole time, so she could hardly stand it that she got to see her this time! She did say that she didn't get to see Ariel yet, so maybe tomorrow she will get to. Here's hoping!

At work we have been  having a Halloween Desk Decorating competition, so I have been making lots of fun decorations to show off. So far, only some people have been decorating. I did get a few people though to finally decorate theirs later this week. On my next post, I will show you all my desk.

In the mean time, I made one more thing to hang up at home with my Halloween decorations. I had some fun tags made from Fancy Pants left over, along with the rest of the Halloween paper I got this year.

So I made this scrapbook page frame to go with a pic of Peyton from Halloween last year. She was the cutest little witch - if I do say so myself :).

Totally spooky and great for Halloween!

One more thing before I am off to bed.... One of Peyton's favorite books that is perfect for Halloween season is called "Room On A Broom" by Julia Donaldson. It is such a cute story about a witch and her companions and the adventure they encounter together. It's a really cute story told in verse. If you are looking for a fun Halloween story for your younger children, check this out. It will become a classic for future Halloweens to come!

A Shadowbox For Peyton

Sorry, I know it's been a few weeks. My post from last week got delayed because I was getting ready for a garage sale. This week has been a lot of purging, pricing and Pride & Prejudice! Alright and a lot of Twilight and, New Moon, and Eclipse. What can I say, I watched the movies a lot this week!

And as I am typing, I am watching Breakfast At Tiffany's - one of my all time favorites. I love everything of Audry Hepburn's that I have seen. Some day when I grow up, I want to be just like her :).

My garage sale went great! I sold a few hundred dollars and then the rest went to the thrift store. Not too bad. I want to buy a sewing machine, so we shall see what will come of that.

A few months back I went to crafty night with my friend Trudie, who I also work with, and I made something for Peyton's room. It's a shadow box. You know the darling little tiny shadow boxes from Maya Road? That's what I used. I love how it has the square chipboard pieces to fit in the back of each section, so you can decorate those and then stick them right in the spot. That also allowed me to move the pieces around until I got each of them just where I wanted them.

I painted the shadowbox a light turquoise/blue color. Peyton is obssessed with blue, so it had to be blue! And it matches her room. Turns out the paint was a few years old so it was pretty thick and didn't go on so smooth. It actually added to it and made the whoel thing look like I painted it a few years ago. Not intentional at all, but it worked out into my favor. The scallop trim at the top is the endge of Sassafrass paper. I love their paper, don't you! The top banner is American Crafts and Sassafrass paper. I made it by cutting strips of paper, folding them in half, cutting the ribbon edge into them and then glueing heart and flower punches onto each section. The whole thing is strung on twine. It's currently my favorite thing to make right now! I can't get enough of these banners!!! {If you remember, I did one on the picture frame I showed on the last post}.

So when we went to Costco the other day, they had out princess Halloween costumes. Peyton has been saying that she wanted to be a butterfly. Well once she saw the princess costumes that all went away!! There was Cinderella, Tiana, Sleeping Beauty, Ariel, Barbie Princess and Snow White. Of course Peyton wanted Cinderella, but that would be #4!!!! So she decided upon Snow White. And she looks so cute in it, if I do say so myself! What do you all think?

One last thing before I head out. Peyton told me the other day that she wishes the workers on our house would come back and paint her room blue! Blue is her absolute favorite color! And Cinderella is her most favorite princess. So now she wants her room blue. I told her sorry, but repainting her room was not an option right now. My mom found the blue paper lantern in the photo below and got it for her bedroom. It's super cute and would be fun to add a light to. But I think it's cute as is too. I want to make some smaller balls to hang next to them. But it adds a fun splash of turquoise blue to her room in the mean time. And she loved it too!

Stampin' Up! Club Swaps - Owl Boxes

Hey Everyone! So Amber, Marci and I go to club once a month at my Stampin' Up! Upline's house. Cindy has a great blog. Check it out if you get a chance. A few months back Cindy started a swap with her club members. As you all know, I love to make mini cards. When Cindy sent out the first email to give the details, she specifically said to make FULL SIZE cards. He he he! So I did, just like a good girl. But this time around, I decided to not make a card at all! I got a petal box die last month, so I decided to make boxes for everyone.

These are so simple to make. You cut out 2 petals. Then you glue the flaps on each side to just inside each piece. I glued the flaps down on top, but you don't have to. You can leave them loose or fold them on top. I planned on having them open though to have the candy sticking out of the top. Otherwise I would have closed them. And because I was being cheap and didn't want to buy Sticky Strip to hold it all together, I used my glue gun. It wasn't perfect. But they held together just fine.

Two non-crafting items to mention:

The first thing, has anyone read Water for Elephants? I just started it today finally. And I am really loving it so far. I am hoping the movie will be good! The movie coming out is the reason why I finally decided to read it, although I have been wanting to read it for quite a while. I admit, I am worried Robert Pattinson won't be a strong enough actor to play the part. Hopefully, I am wrong though! We shall see.

And the second thing is, I am watching Les Miserables 25th Anniversary Concert The O2 tonight. It's been forever since I have seen the movie and listened to the music. I forget how good it is. So many good songs and characters! Wow, it's such an amazing experience. Even on the small screen and just the music. It's on PBS, so if you get a chance, watch it!! So so so good!
